Many people think you have to be flexible to do yoga, and many people think that yoga is just about stretching. While stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. The practice of yoga positions, called Asanas, creates a strong and light body. It can increase the range of motion in your joints, improve circulation, balance the nervous system and reduce stress. It is also a practice of awareness, because it calms and purifies the mind through focused breathing. The tools that we learn in yoga can be integrated in other areas of our life. We become calmer in challenging situations, and have a greater capacity to concentrate and be present.
If you have been curious about trying yoga, this class will be sure to prepare you and answer any questions you might have. Two teachers will be co leading the class to ensure each student feels encouraged. Taught by Amanda Peruzzi and Brie Beard, you will learn what to expect when you take a class, the different styles of yoga, an understanding of basic postures and how to modify. Questions are encouraged throughout the class, as this is a time for you to learn how to begin your own practice.
Class cost: $10
